Advice and maintenance

Good advice

It is better to use cold water when crushing. This way, all greasy and sticky leftovers will be crushed and they will flow on through the drain pipe, which is better than if you dissolve them in hot water, which is expensive, and moreover cold water cools the engine.

Example of use of the waste disposer

For crushing, you need permanent supply of water, so that a fluid mixture can be created that is able to flow away. Also, remainders of the crushed waste should not be inserted excessively fast, so that the crushing chamber is not overstuffed. This may result in slowing of the whole process, but also engine overload and subsequent switching-off by the thermal fuse. In household conditions, overloading of the disposer is virtually impossible; this applies mainly to disposers in business operations.

Crush also bones and other hard food leftovers, as the waste pipes will be thus cleaned by them.

If you pour boiling water from pots into the sink, where a disposer is placed (for example when cooking pasta), turn on the cold water tap as well, so that temperature shock does not occur. Sudden temperature differences cause changes in expansivity in all materials and this may result in microscopic fissures and later cracking of some part of the crushing chamber.

Never pour any chemicals for cleaning the waste pipes directly into the disposer! (Krtek, Louh – lye and others). You would etch the gufero sealing this way and water that would subsequently seep through, could damage the engine. If you need to dissolve sediments in the waste conduit and you want to use some chemical detergents, it is necessary to pour these detergents into the conduit behind the sink connection to the disposer.

By crushing waste that is not biological, you will not destroy the disposer; however, you may cause difficulties or engine overload. It is not easy at all to remove small fragments of glass from the crushing chamber, aluminum foil crumpled between the turntable and the wall of the ring, and moreover, its is pity for your teaspoons to be crushed by the disposer. Do not throw plastic foil or rubber bands into the disposer; you may block one of the swivel lugs, which will manifest itself by increase in vibrations when crushing, because the rotating turntable will be out of balance.

In some circumstances, operation of the disposer may be noisier than usual. That is quite common e.g. when crushing bones, but it may occur also in cases when a spoon, cap, bottle or other similar objects fall into the disposer by accident.

If the disposer is not active, we recommend using the multipurpose stopper Mr. Scrappy, which enables water to drain from the sink, but at the same time prevents falling of a foreign object into the chamber of the disposer. At this moment it thus has two functions, it serves as a plug and as a sieve at the same time. If the disposer is in operation, it is used as an aid for shoveling and pushing of the waste into the chamber of the disposer.

If, once in a while, you need to crush a great amount of leftovers that you do not want to push through the splash guard, you can crush without the guard; however, you must take into account the increased noisiness and occasional squirting of water from the chamber of the disposer. Nevertheless, this can significantly accelerate crushing.

Minimum maintenance

The disposer does not require almost any maintenance during its lifespan. The working space is anticorrosive, the electromotor has self-lubricating bearings.

Rubber guard of the waste disposer

We recommend to take out the rubber flange from time to time and to rinse its bottom, where particles of crushed waste sediment and may begin to decompose after some time.

To achieve a deodorant effect, it is sufficient to crush orange or lemon peel and your disposer will have a nice smell.

If you want your disposer to always be as new, throw pieces of ice into the chamber of the disposer, add a cup of salt, plug the disposer (do not turn on water yet, switch the disposer on and let it run, until you hear the sound of crushed ice, then remove the plug, turn on cold water for a while and switch the disposer off. This procedure will remove impurity remainders from the crushing chamber.

Layers of mineral substances from water may deposit on rotating parts of the disposer that are made of stainless steel. These layers look like corrosion. Do not worry, the disposers EcoMaster have all their components made of stainless steel.
